Location: Bilborough Sports Centre
Salary: £26,000.00 - £27,500.00 per annum
Hours: Full-time (35hrs pw) – 5 days a week, shifts may vary dependant on business needs
Reports to: Group Business Manager

Overview

This is a fantastic opportunity to join P&E Sports at an exciting time in our growth. We are undertaking a period of restructure and development, and this role will be central to the effective day-to-day operation of a designated sports centre, alongside the development and delivery of engaging community programmes.

The Sports Centre Manager & Community Coordinator role combines operational leadership with hands-on programme delivery, ensuring high standards of service, strong staff management, and increased participation during evenings, weekends, and school holidays. This role would suit someone passionate about sport, youth engagement, and community development, with the initiative to identify opportunities, create programmes, and deliver meaningful impact for both pupils and the wider community.

About Us

P&E Sports is a rapidly growing provider of sports and school facility management, working in partnership with schools, community organisations, local authorities, and charities to maximise the use of venue facilities and community involvement.

We currently partner with 20 schools, hiring out over 160 facilities for community use, delivering a range of activities including football development sessions, birthday party packages, holiday camps, and managing the smooth running of 7 school community gyms. Our reputation is built on professionalism, integrity, and operational excellence, and our focus remains on providing exceptional customer service while strengthening relationships with our partners and communities.

Purpose of the Role

The Sports Centre Manager & Community Coordinator is responsible for the efficient day-to-day running of the allocated sports centre while also leading the development and delivery of community programmes. The role exists to increase participation, engagement, and footfall by making schools vibrant hubs for activity during evenings, weekends, and school holidays.

This is a hands-on role requiring operational oversight, staff leadership, and direct delivery of sports and community activities, ensuring high standards of customer service, safeguarding, compliance, and financial performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Staff Management

· Line manage and oversee Senior Leisure Attendants, Leisure Attendants, junior workers, sports coaches, Gym Personal Trainers and cleaners.

· Oversee staff rotas, shift cover, and timesheet approvals, escalating to Leadership team where needed.

· Ensure staff follow company standards for service, presentation, and safeguarding.

· Support staff development by identifying training needs and encouraging best practice.

· Hold regular team meetings to communicate updates, standards, and expectations.

· Oversee consistent operational standards, branding, and service quality across all allocated venues.

· Conduct regular site audits to ensure compliance with P&E Sports standards and school agreements.

· Provide regular performance feedback and development support to all staff you line manage.

Facility Operations & Standards

· Take overall responsibility for the cleanliness, safety, and presentation of the centre, including gyms, sports halls, pitches, changing areas, and communal spaces.

· Ensure gyms are operated safely, including organising and conducting inductions, overseeing membership systems, and monitoring PAR-Q documentation.

· Oversee the issuing of membership cards and management of the online booking system.

· Conduct regular equipment and facility checks, reporting maintenance issues or improvement needs to P&E Sports Leadership team.

· Implement cleaning routines, including regular sweeping, buffing, and deep cleaning as scheduled.

· Monitor the use of 3G pitches and ensure appropriate maintenance and reporting.

· Manage the organisation, monitoring, and reporting of registers for P&E Sports’ sessions.

· Oversee cleaning and maintenance schedules to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

Data, Reporting, Programme development and Performance Monitoring

· Monitor and analyse usage data, bookings, and membership trends across all venues to identify opportunities for growth.

· Monitor participation and prepare regular reports on community engagement, outcomes, and impact.

· Use performance metrics (e.g. participation, retention, income per facility) to report progress and propose improvements.

· Support the leadership team in preparing site performance summaries for review meetings.

· Assist SLT in forecasting, budgeting, and planning for growth or investment across your venues.

· Recommend improvements or new programme ideas in response to community demand and site capacity.

· Maintain accurate registers, attendance logs, and feedback records.

· Ensure delivery aligns with P&E Sports’ wider goals around youth engagement, wellbeing, and community benefit.

Customer Service & Community Engagement

· Act as the first point of contact for hirers and customers, ensuring strong ongoing relationships.

· Respond to enquiries (email, phone, in-person, or through booking portals) in a professional and timely manner.

· Support the smooth delivery of community programmes, youth clubs, and birthday parties, holiday camp and ensuring adequate staffing or delivering sessions directly where required.

· Handle feedback and complaints effectively, escalating major issues to P&E Sports Leadership team.

· Identify opportunities for new sessions, community programmes, or partnerships to increase participation and revenue.

· Identify gaps in activity provision and help create a programme of relevant sessions (e.g. gymnastics, boxing, youth clubs, fitness classes, holiday camps).

· Recruit, coordinate, and oversee external coaches or session leaders where required.

· Drive participation growth with a focus on inclusivity and sustained engagement.

Marketing & Communication

· Lead on marketing the facilities, creating an sharing promotional content across social media (using tools such as Canva), including posters, noticeboards, and in-person engagement with hirers.

· Maintain up-to-date marketing materials in-venue (screens, displays, noticeboards).

· Work with P&E Sports Leadership team to deliver consistent marketing campaigns across venues.

· Communicate company updates, initiatives, and changes consistently across all sites.

· Work with schools to promote activities to pupils and parents, including assemblies and class visits.

· Represent P&E Sports at community events, promoting opportunities and building awareness.

· Ensure all sessions are effectively publicised and accessible to their target audience.

· Collaborate with HR, Marketing, and Business Development teams to support company-wide projects.

Finance & Administration

· Monitor and purchase stock for tuck shops and similar outlets (with reimbursement through company processes).

· Oversee and record weekly cash tin balances, ensuring financial accuracy.

· Support the timely reporting of staff hours for payroll.

· Provide monthly reports on participation, sessions, and facility usage.

Compliance & Safeguarding

· Ensure all activities comply with health and safety, safeguarding, and site policies.

· Ensure staff and customers adhere to company policies and legal requirements (including GDPR).

· Liaise with school/site teams only with prior approval from P&E Sports Leadership team.

· Report safeguarding concerns or major incidents immediately to Designated Safeguarding Lead / P&E Sports Leadership team.

Leisure Centre Operations

· Occasionally act as Duty Officer, supporting with the day-to-day running of the leisure centre.

· Open and close facilities, ensuring safety and security.

· Provide excellent customer service, managing bookings and enquiries.

· Carry out basic site maintenance and safety checks.

· Supervise public access and ensure safe, effective use of facilities.

· Liaise with hirers, ensuring smooth transitions between sessions.

· Maintain high standards of cleanliness, professionalism, and site presentation.

Person Specification:

Essential:

· Proven experience in managing or supervising within a sports, leisure, or customer service environment.

· Experience in delivering sport, youth work, or community activity programmes.

· Strong organisational and leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and to work independently.

· Excellent communication and customer service skills.

· Coaching or youth work qualifications.

· Passion for increasing participation in physical activity and community services.

· Confidence in leading sessions and working with children/young people (ages 5–16).

· Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with parents, schools, and external providers.

· IT literacy, including use of Canva, Word, email, and basic online systems and confident in using booking/membership systems.

· Flexible with working hours, including evenings and weekends.

Desirable:

· Fitness, leisure, or facility management qualification (e.g. CIMSPA, NVQ/SVQ).

· First Aid and Safeguarding qualifications.

· Experience with gym management and inductions.

· Experience in community engagement and programme delivery.

· Experience delivering school assemblies or marketing to schools.

· Experience recruiting or supervising part-time delivery staff.

· Access to own transport and ability to travel between sites.
