Main Responsibilities
· Researching and exploring possible data-driven solutions to enhance our understanding of human activity on the ocean while also delivering real-world data analytical solutions that solve pressing maritime problems
· Combining expertise in maths, computer science and analytics to develop algorithms that analyse and interpret huge amounts of data and make it useable and accessible internally and for our clients
· Understanding the different phases of project delivery and running research and analysis for each milestone in a timely manner that it effectively contributes to decision making
· Collaborating proactively with the immediate and wider team to develop and deliver solutions that meet, or goes beyond, the client or project expectations
· Build on the patterns and trends identified to understand the real-world implications of findings and insights
· Develop innovative and advanced analytics technologies including AI and machine learning to explain complex maritime scenarios and overcome potential challenges
· Investigate outliers and edge cases where models break down in the face of real world human behaviour, and identify methods to account for these variations in activity
· Analyse algorithmic outputs to identify interesting results that can be used to tell the story around identified activities to bring the data to life for partners
· Engage with continuous improvement initiatives across the data science team
· Builds and maintains strong, trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support collaboration and long‑term success
Key Competencies and Skills
Essential Criteria
· Understanding of time-domain pattern matching techniques with particular emphasis on experience of using multi-terabyte noisy and incomplete data, including experience in the practical application of such techniques.
· Knowledge and application of a wide range of pattern matching techniques, such as DNN, HMM, GMM, SVM.
· Working experience of a range of signal processing techniques.
· Expert level understanding of mathematical probability and statistics
· C/C++ knowledge and significant practical experience
· Endlessly curious about apparently insignificant details, as interested in the outliers as much as the norms
· Good at spotting patterns in the data and discovering something important and relevant
· Ability to quickly identify threads of research which are likely to lead to useful outcomes from those which are leading nowhere
· Able to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively to technical and non-technical specialists
· A self-starter with experience of project teams and external deadlines
· Maintains own continuous professional development, fascinated by emerging technologies and techniques
