The Community Physical Activity Organisers focus on supporting individuals and communities to make physical activity part of their daily lives in ways that work for them and to build community-led, welcoming and long-lasting opportunities in local neighbourhoods. They are hosted by Exeter City Community Trust as part of the Wellbeing Exeter alliance and will be working closely with the wider team of Wellbeing Exeter Community Connectors and Community Builders.

Terms:

- Salary: £27,053 FTE (2026-27)

- Hours: we are recruiting for 37.5 hours per week) either on a full time or job share basis (part time hours).

- This role will have a geographical area to work in within Exeter.

- The role will be hosted and line managed by Exeter City Community Trust and work as part of a team of Community Physical Activity Organisers.

- Flexible working arrangements will be considered. Some evening and weekend work will be required to fulfil the role.

Role functions:

- Discover, map and understand the current physical activity opportunities and assets in their area of the city and how these are experienced by those who are currently inactive. Explore how these can be more accessible and welcoming for those who aren’t currently active and identify opportunities for new activities and resources to develop. Work with Community Builders and other local stakeholders to understand the wider local picture and how this affects opportunities for physical activity.

- Work alongside residents, groups and networks to understand their physical activity related ideas and support them to get “off the ground” and keep going. This will include working closely with Wellbeing Exeter colleagues and the wider Live and Move team to get people to the right resources/support at the right time. This could include working alongside residents, groups and networks to provide or link with practical support for activities when needed (including one-offs / tasters which can act as a catalyst for further, longer-term activity).

- Work with individuals who are looking to become more active in ways that work for them, including by providing information, linking them to opportunities, and providing support/accompaniment etc. when required. This will include working with individuals referred to Community Connectors and the Wellbeing Exeter Single Point of Referral as well as through wider engagement.

- Work alongside existing individuals/groups/networks who want to expand in to physical activity to make this happen. Understand how/when/why this happens and what stops it happening. Work with Community Builders to understand and facilitate this process.

- Engage and listen to residents, including alongside Community Builders where this is beneficial. Engage residents in consultations on relevant local physical activity topics to ensure that the voice / experiences of those that are currently inactive are included.

- Act as a “champion” of physical activity within Wellbeing Exeter, providing information and resources to colleagues and promoting physical activity as a key element of wellbeing.

- Capture and share community stories, successes and challenges that can inform and support learning and evaluation across pilot area and wider Sport England pilots.

- Work with colleagues to promote collaboration and learning across “sectors”, with a focus on how the health/social/voluntary and physical activity can work together to promote health and wellbeing successfully.

- Develop and share learning from role with Wellbeing Exeter, Live and Move and wider Sport England colleagues; supporting the growing understanding of what does and doesn't work when working with inactive people and communities, how challenges can be overcome.

- Maintain awareness of regional and national policies, campaigns, resources etc that may be relevant to role and of benefit to the aims of the programme.
