This role is front of house in The Hive Café, serving customers, cleaning, brewing hot drinks, processing payments and contributing to making The Hive a special place on campus.

  • Job Title: Barista
  • Team: The Hive Cafe
  • Responsible to: The Hive Café Manager
  • Contract Type: Zero hours (in accordance with the needs of the organisation and the individual staff member)
  • Hours of Work: Up to 20 hours per week during term time (between Monday to Friday 7:30 – 17:00). Hours are also available outside of term time. Occasional requirement for work on weekends and evenings depending on the business requirements
  • Hourly Rate of Pay: £12.21 (excluding holiday pay), £13.68 (including holiday pay)

Individual Responsibilities

  • Welcoming customers and taking orders.
  • Describing menu items, suggesting products to customers, and articulating the sustainability ethos of The Hive.
  • Receiving and processing customer payments.
  • Effectively communicating orders to co-workers.
  • Preparing and serving hot and cold drinks to a high standard.
  • Displaying and serving cakes and pastries.
  • Cleaning and sanitising work areas, utensils and kitchen equipment.
  • Assisting in the preparation and serving of our food menu.
  • Cleaning service and seating areas.
  • Receiving and distributing stock supplies.

General Responsibilities

  • Comply with the Students’ Union’s articles of association and other governing documents, recognising and celebrating the contribution of members to leading our work.
  • Work as part of a wider team, undertaking any other reasonable duties appropriate for the grade that may be required by the organisation.
