Role purpose
We are seeking an experienced Site Quantity Surveyor (QS) to join our project delivery team for a major mining development in Cornwall. The successful candidate will play a key role in the commercial and contractual management of works packages associated with both surface and below-ground infrastructure. This is a site-based position offering the opportunity to be at the heart of one of the UK’s most exciting mining and infrastructure projects.

The position is offered on a fixed-term basis until June 2028, with the potential to extend depending project requirements.
Principle responsibilities/role tasks
Specific duties as part of the role include, but are not limited to, the following:-
- Establish and maintain systems for measuring and reporting project progress through all phases of the project lifecycle (engineering, procurement, execution, commissioning, and turn-over)
- Provide full commercial support to the site delivery team, ensuring cost, value, and contractual matters are effectively managed.
- Administer and manage subcontracts, including preparation of tender enquiries, contract award, and ongoing performance monitoring.
- Liaise with Project Procurement to ensure that commitments are accurately captured in our systems and that goods are received on site on time to support the project schedule.
- Prepare valuations, cost forecasts, change management, and payment applications.
- Monitor project budgets, highlighting risks and opportunities.
- Liaise with site managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure accurate cost capture and forecasting.
- Work closely with the Project Cost Controller to ensure that progress payment certificates are accurately captured in our systems.
- Contribute to monthly reporting, including cost/value reconciliations and progress updates to senior management team.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, client requirements, and relevant legislation.

Working Environment
This role involves a combination of office and field-based activities, on a project with industrial surface construction and underground mining components.
This is an on-site role based at South Crofty mine. It will involve regular movement around the site, including underground, for meetings, training and project related activities as well as occasional external meetings across the UK.
Key relationships
The role will report to the Senior Project Engineer, but there will be frequent interaction with the Engineering and Project Manager, and the Project Director.
The role will also involve working closely with Cornish Metals technical staff (underground and surface) involved in the ongoing project activities and mine dewatering and shaft refurbishment project.

External relationships will include construction contractors, equipment suppliers, and engineers.
Skills and experience
The key skills and experience which are expected for this role are:
Essential
Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor on large-scale civil engineering, mining, tunnelling, or infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of NEC / JCT or similar forms of contract.
- Experience in both surface works (earthworks, roads, civils, structural steel erection, mechanical equipment installation, and utilities) and below-ground infrastructure desirable.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and negotiation skills; excellent organisational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with project teams and stakeholders.
- Willingness to be site-based in Cornwall for the duration of the contract.
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a predominately standalone capacity while also working with all areas of the workforce
- Demonstrate a positive, proactive approach and show high levels of initiative.
- Current driving licence, or alternative ability to efficiently undertake the duties of the role and reliably travel to site.
Desirable
Previous experience of working in a company in the extractive, construction or industrial sectors
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint) etc.
Hours of work and work location
Fixed term, full time 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 4:00pm, based at the South Crofty Mine site in Pool, Redruth. The role may occasionally require availability outside standard working hours to support operation activities and other events.
