Role Overview
We are seeking a Sales Director (Defence) to lead Volklec’s commercial strategy and execution within the UK defence sector. This is a senior, hands-on role for a proven sales leader who has actively sold into and completed sales within the defence sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, developing, and closing strategic opportunities, while helping shape Volklec’s market positioning and product direction.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a targeted sales strategy for the UK defence sector.
- Build and manage a pipeline of qualified opportunities with defence primes, government agencies, and other key stakeholders.
- Lead complex sales cycles from initial engagement through to contract award.
- Collaborate with internal teams to align product development with customer needs and market trends.
- Represent Volklec at defence industry events, exhibitions, and forums.
- Identify and pursue opportunities in adjacent sectors such as aerospace, security, and critical infrastructure.
Required Experience & Skills
- Proven track record of selling directly into the UK defence sector — including successful contract wins.
- Strong understanding of defence procurement processes, stakeholder dynamics, and compliance requirements.
- Experience working in startup or scale-up environments — adaptable, resilient, and comfortable with ambiguity.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to execute tactically and independently.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills — credible, clear, and authentic.
- Ability to identify and create new market opportunities beyond defence.
- UK-based with flexibility to travel nationally and occasionally internationally.
- Battery or energy storage knowledge is not essential, but would be a significant advantage.
