Role purpose
We're looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer, ideally with mining or heavy industrial experience, to join our team here at South Crofty.
As a key member of our operations, you will ensure the reliability, safety and efficiency of all mine and surface electrical systems, including the underground electrical network, hoisting and winder systems and the processing plant
You will be responsible for the complete reticulation system, encompassing high, medium, and low voltage networks from the incomers through to the mine-wide distribution infrastructure. The role also includes oversight of communication systems, PLCs and other associated electrical systems.
As the Site Electrical Engineer, your core responsibilities include system design, specification and selection of appropriate equipment, and the ongoing maintenance of installed infrastructure. You will ensure that all systems operate safely, efficiently and in full compliance with applicable safety regulations and industry standards.
You will be instrumental in growing and maintaining our mine electrical infrastructure to ensure that our production aims are achieved.
Cornish Metals is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to diversity, equality and inclusion in the workplace. A copy of our Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Policy is available on our website.
Principle responsibilities/role tasks
Specific duties as part of the role include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Design & Equipment Selection - Contribute to the development of technical designs and participate in the selection of electrical equipment, ensuring alignment with project specifications, engineering standards, and applicable electrical legislation.
- Installation & Maintenance - Oversee the installation, inspection, testing, and maintenance of low, medium, and high-voltage electrical systems. This includes infrastructure for power generation, building services (e.g., lighting and heating), and automation systems such as PLCs and SCADA.
- Acceptance Testing - Lead and coordinate both factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) of electrical equipment to verify compliance with performance and safety standards.
- Regulatory Compliance & Standards Assurance - Ensure all electrical installations and equipment adhere to relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements, maintaining systems in a safe and operable condition.
- Hazard Management & Safety Protocols- Identify and manage major hazards associated with electrical equipment. Develop and implement safety-critical work tasks, method statements, and safe operating procedures.
- Training & Competency Development - Oversee the development of technical competencies within the electrical department. Deliver targeted, electrical equipment-specific and procedure training to craftsmen operating in both processing and underground environments.
- Proactive Maintenance Strategy Implementation - Deploy predictive and preventive maintenance strategies to proactively identify and resolve potential electrical equipment failures, enhancing system reliability.
- Failure Analysis & Mitigation - Investigate electrical system failures to determine root causes and formulate effective prevention strategies to avoid recurrence.
- Continuous Improvement & Innovation - Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the electrical department, with a strong emphasis on adopting and integrating emerging technologies to enhance operational efficiency.
- Project Development – Participate in project meetings to advise project teams of design criteria, standards and best practices.
Cornish Metals is an equal opportunities employer and reasonable adjustments will be provided.
