Hours of work: Term Time only, 10 hours per week / Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday these hours will fit with your studies
Salary: National Minimum Wage per hour and if applicable subject to TAX & NI contribution
Location: Kedleston Road (with travel to other Derby sites, as and when required)

ROLE DESCRIPTION FOR STUDENT ORGANISER
MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE
To support the development of student Communities. This role focuses on fostering a sense of belonging among students, reducing social isolation, and encouraging meaningful connections through outreach and events. There are three areas of focus; Academic, Nationalities and Culture, and Liberation and Equality.
OVERVIEW
As a Student Organiser, you will work closely with Union staff to support and grow student-led Communities. Your key responsibility will be to engage with a diverse range of students, helping them to connect with each other and feel part of something bigger. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about student wellbeing and understands the importance of community. You will play a vital part in identifying student interests, amplifying student voices, and helping shape community initiatives that are inclusive and student focused. By encouraging participation and assisting with community events, you’ll be contributing to a more connected and supportive campus culture.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Voice & Insight Manager or Student Communities Manager, depending on area of focus.
DUTIES:
•To work with Student Leaders on campaigning and change-making.
•Reach out to students across different groups, backgrounds, and courses to build positive connections.
•Facilitate and support Community-led events and meetups with guidance from Union staff.
•Act as a trusted peer and point of contact for students who may feel isolated or disconnected.
•Identify and share emerging student interests, ideas, and concerns with Union staff.
•Collaborate with other Student Organisers to build cross-community engagement.
•Attend regular meetings with Union staff to report on student feedback, community challenges, opportunities and improvements.
•Provide regular communication to student groups regarding trends or key issues, e.g., newsletter, campaign ideas.
•To support with and/or the Union Meeting and other relevant democratic meetings and events.
•To contribute to Union Membership projects that link with strategic targets.
•Work together to deliver the Union annual plan/strategy.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
•To develop effective relationships with all teams across the Organisation.
•To develop an effective working relationship with the Voice team and Communities team.
•Work closely with the Voice Coordinator and Communities Coordinator.
•Work with the Executive Officers to support Student Leaders and Communities.
•Create positive and productive relationships with University staff.

GENERAL:
The principle role and responsibilities will change from time to time and the post holder is required to undertake any additional duties as deemed appropriate.

Staff are required to have a Personal Development Plan and to participate in training, meetings or conferences considered relevant to their job.
Staff must carry out their duties with full regard to the rules policies and procedures and conditions of service contained in the staff information guide.
A condition of the employment is that all staff are expected to assist in key events throughout the year e.g. Welcome, Elections and any other key events if necessary. Staff are expected to portray a positive image both internally and externally of the Union by displaying standards of service integrity, punctuality, politeness, and professionalism.
