Invictus UK 2027 is a charity and delivery organisation for the 2027 Invictus Games at the NEC Birmingham; with a comprehensive social impact programme starting from summer 2025.
Our Games will bring together Wounded, Injured and Sick Serving Personnel, Veterans and families from over 20 Nations; supporting their recovery journeys and celebrating resilience, community and the unconquered human spirit.
We will create meaningful social impact by supporting recovery and connection for wounded, injured and sick service personnel, veterans, and their families with a strong focus on accessibility and sustainable delivery of the Games.
About the role
We are looking to appoint an exceptional individual to our operations team to contribute to the planning of key operational areas such as overlay, logistics, ceremonies, in conjunction with the incumbent venue planning teams. The post will report into the Operations Director.
The Operations Manager will work in close collaboration with the Operations team and wider Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 team and will be responsible for developing a suite of operational plans including an Event Management Plan, CAD production, functional area operating plans, radio fleetmap and operational run sheets. Supplier engagement, contracting and operational budget management will be core to the role.
Stakeholder Management:
· Build strong relationships with key stakeholders including the host venues, the Invictus Games Foundation, local authorities, etc
Operational Planning and Delivery:
· Drive planning for key operational functional areas required to deliver the Games, including venue operations, participating nations services, security, accreditation and registration, technology, ceremonies, protocol, medical, accommodation, transport, overlay, logistics, etc.
· Drive integration between functional areas of the Games, host venues and key suppliers.
· Assist functional area leads in the development of operational plans for all delivery areas, ensuring these meet the agreed service levels and timelines, and integrate across operational areas
· Assist the Operations Director in the management of the functional area budget lines, driving value for money alongside operational excellence
· Develop strong positive collaborative working with key partners and contractors for Games venues and any subcontracted areas of delivery (e.g. ceremonies)
· Deliver an innovative approach to operational planning and ensure that resource is used efficiently
· Ensure that operational plans incorporate a world class approach to accessibility and place the Invictus competitors at the heart of operational planning
· Contribute to the event risk register, identifying, managing and escalating risks in line with the risk management policy
Essential Experience and Knowledge:
· Recent experience of delivering major international multi-sport events safely, on time and on budget
· In-depth knowledge of operational best practices and safety standards for international sports events
· Proven experience in a management position
· Proven experience of people management within an event environment in planning and delivery
· A track record in managing and motivating cross-functional teams
· Flexible and innovative approach to event operations - experience in working across several operational areas
· Previously responsible and accountable for delivering within agreed budgets and a track record of driving efficiency and cost control
· Experience of managing high value contracts with event venues and key suppliers, driving compliance with timelines and ensuring cost control
· Experience in identifying and managing risks
· Ability to manage and resolve unforeseen issues quickly and in a calm manner
· A passion for the Invictus Games movement, sport and events
Desirable Experience:
· Experience of working in smaller organising committees and/or event delivery agencies and of driving efficiencies
· A deep understanding of the logistical and accessibility considerations required to deliver a successful adaptive sport event
· Experience of delivering multi-sport events
· Experience of implementing sustainable practices within the event industry.
