Caxton Payments are looking for a self-motivated, proactive and organised Financial Crime Analyst to join our Compliance team! You will be joining a small but skilled team and will be involved in identifying, and preventing financial crimes like money laundering, using data analysis and working closely with various teams. The role will require basic proficiency in SQL and Python and basic coding. If you have a strong interest in financial crime prevention and you bring experience in detecting and analysing suspicious activities and basic coding, this role could be just the fit for you.
Your Duties and Responsibilities
1. Client Onboarding:
- Conduct thorough due diligence on new clients to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assess and verify client information to identify potential risks related to financial crime.
2. Transaction Monitoring:
- Monitor financial transactions for unusual or suspicious activities.
- Utilise automated monitoring systems and tools to detect and investigate potential instances of fraud or money laundering.
- Translate business rules, test and refine rulesets to improve transaction monitoring alerts
- Extract and analyse data using python and SQL
3. Knowledge of Money Laundering Regulations:
- Stay updated on the latest money laundering regulations and guidelines.
- Implement and maintain procedures to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
4. Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs):
- Prepare and submit Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to relevant authorities in accordance with established protocols.
- Work closely with the compliance team to provide comprehensive documentation for suspicious cases.
5. Fraud Investigations:
- Conduct investigations into potentially fraudulent activities, collaborating with internal teams and law enforcement agencies as necessary.
- Compile evidence and findings to support the resolution of fraud cases.
6. Financial Crime Detection and Management:
- Proactively identify and assess emerging financial crime risks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement measures for the prevention and mitigation of financial crimes.
7. Compliance:
- Ensure strict compliance with all money laundering regulations, the Electronic Money Regulations (EMR’s 2011) and the Payment Services Regulations 2017 (PSR’s 2017).
- Assist in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures to uphold compliance standards.
- Support compliance training with internal stakeholders.
8. Bookkeeping:
- Ensure all financial crime logs are completed on time and to a high standard
- Carry out regular reviews of logs highlighting inconsistencies or irregularities to the MLRO.
9. Projects:
- Support Compliance projects as required.
Skills and Requirements
- A minimum of 12-18 months experience in Financial Crime roles.
- Ability to translate business rules into logical conditions (AND/OR/NOT) within our low-code/no-code transaction-monitoring platform, then test and refine those rule sets for accurate alerting.
- Basic proficiency in Python for compliance automation. Able to write simple scripts using core syntax, control-flow constructs, and functions to support data checks and workflow tasks.
- Basic proficiency in SQL for data extraction and aggregation. Able to query relational databases, join related tables, and produce summary reports.
- Good understanding of money laundering regulations and financial crime prevention.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
Preferred but not essential
- Professional Development: Certification in AML or Financial Crime (e.g., ICA, ACAMs, or other recognised professional qualifications) is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience working with transaction monitoring applications.
