ROLE:                         Trainee Landscaper 
RESPONSIBLE TO:       Landscape Team Leader

 ROLE PURPOSE
To assist a team of hard and soft landscapers in the construction of domestic gardens by undertaking specific manual tasks as directed, under supervision. 

KEY AREAS
This job description sets out a summary of the key features of the role.  It is not intended to be exhaustive and will be reviewed periodically to ensure it remains appropriate for the role.

The main responsibilities will include:

 - Hard landscaping: site clearance and preparation, loading and unloading of materials and site waste, assisting in the construction of paving, block/brick/stone wall and step construction, water features, block paving, decking, fencing and other timberwork, driveway construction, groundworks, laying concrete, drainage, site clearance and preparation. This will include the use of a cement mixer to mix gauges to the correct standard. It will also involve other general labouring tasks including keeping the site and tools clean, tidy and safe. Under supervision and after appropriate training you may be expected to use a plate compacter, breaker, auger, disc cutter/grinder and other hand tools.

- Soft landscaping: green waste clearance, digging over and bed preparation, assisting with preparation of ground and laying of turf, planting of trees, shrubs and perennials. Under supervision and after appropriate training you may be expected to use a petrol lawn mower, rotovator, hedge trimmer, strimmer and leaf blower.

The post holder must also undertake other duties within his/her competence or otherwise appropriate to the grading of the post as required by the Company Directors.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications & Experience
Essential

- Full, clean and valid driving license 

Desirable
- Previous experience in hard and soft landscaping   
- NVQ or equivalent in landscape construction
- Use of own transport

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Essential

- Maintains a high level of physical fitness and is prepared to work outside in all weathers
- Good time management, ability to work to deadlines and prioritise tasks
- Ability to follow instructions, learn from previous mistakes and ask for help and guidance when required
- Good attention to detail and able to keep working area and tools clean and tidy
- High level of interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain positive relationships with clients, colleagues and sub-contractors/third parties
- Good verbal and non-verbal communication skills 

Desirable
- A thorough understanding and respect of relevant Health and Safety policies and procedures
- Good understanding of the concepts of GDPR and confidentiality with regards to personal data handling
