You will be part of the wider International Programmes Team with co-workers in Europe, Latin America and Africa. The Regional Head is responsible for translating Bonsucro’s global strategy into regional and, if applicable, country-relevant local strategies for cane-growing and milling across the region, while also actively engaging with producers of sugar and those that help facilitate sustainable sugar productions (agri-business enablers). You will promote Bonsucro’s profile as the global sugarcane platform and work to accelerate the sustainable production and uses of sugarcane and the success of Bonsucro’s ambitious five-year strategic plan.
You will be responsible for the delivery of Bonsucro’s regional external services and programme delivery functions to our members and play a pivotal function in the development of regional capacity and in the delivery of a regional growth strategy.
Reporting to and working closely with the Director of International Programmes, you will oversee and support a team of 2-3 people in the region and will have 1-3 direct staff reports to line manage.

Key responsibilities
Strategy and delivery
- Originate and develop strategies and implementation plans for the region and specific countries within the region and report on progress against agreed plans and frameworks.
- Design and lead new implementation frameworks that addressing current and/or emerging priorities both globally and within the region.
- Identify emerging trends within the sector in the region and develop strategies and tactics to take advantage of opportunities and address threats
- Craft and articulate Bonsucro’s unique value proposition for members and prospective members in the region
- Develop and lead the delivery of a membership growth and retention strategy for the region
Engagement & Advocacy
- Promote and strengthen Bonsucro’s profile and relationships across the region through external engagement opportunities in regional external events and meetings, partnerships and other membership organisations.
- Maximise member participation in Bonsucro governance fora and events to strengthen regional representation and voice.
- Position Bonsucro’s visibility as thought leader on sustainability in the sector and proactively lead the engagement and retention of key existing and new influential stakeholders to create an effective regional network of thought leaders and service providers.
- Work with stakeholders to adopt and advocate new positions and policies in controversial or contentious contexts.
- Engage with regional and where appropriate national policy makers to influence the policy agenda towards long term sustainability of the sugarcane sector.
- Provide insights from the regional trends, opportunities and regional knowledge to inform new strategy / programme development, communications, programme roll out plans and/or adaptation of strategies at regional level
- Build internal support and engagement for new policy or programme/portfolio initiatives which may challenge existing programmes and approaches.
- Highlight exceptions and operational and reputational risks immediately to the Director of International Programmes as they arise for discussion and resolution.
- In collaboration with the Communications Team, adapt communication materials (e.g. presentations, pitch decks, B2B materials) in relation to membership and member value proposition in the region to build and maintain membership.
Planning, management and reporting
- Develop the Annual Operational Plans and budget for the region based on global and regional strategies and oversee its timely delivery in line with organisational quality standards, adapting to changing context and needs where relevant.
- Lead the regional team, identifying opportunities and requirements for staff development and support and act as line manager for one or more managers within the region.
- Build and maintain positive organisational culture in accordance with Bonsucro’s culture and values.
- Successfully develop and lead 1-3 direct reports to ensure team’s targets and plans are met whilst maintaining motivation, work-life balance and adherence to the organisational culture.
- Work with colleagues to establish robust indicators of performance that ensure consistent quality in deliverables both within and between regions.
- Work together with the Global Leadership Team to execute the company’s growth plans to agreed KPIs
- Oversee the implementation of organisational policies and frameworks in the region in alignment with the agreed frameworks.
- Develop regional input to contribute to the regular internal reporting to GLT and the Board to inform progress reports against AOP and KPIs
Person Specification
Essential criteria
- Postgraduate degree (or equivalent) in international development, sustainability, human rights, or a closely related field.
- Deep understanding of sustainability frameworks, human rights due diligence processes, and environmental and climate issues within the agricultural sector.
- Extensive experience in sustainability, human rights due diligence, ethical sourcing, social impact, or related areas.
- Significant track record in progressive senior leadership and management roles.
- Demonstrated experience navigating complex, global agricultural supply chains.
- Proven success in developing and implementing impactful sustainability and social responsibility strategies and programmes.
- Experience influencing a diverse range of stakeholders—including in the sugarcane sector, political spheres, and commercial enterprises—especially where perspectives may differ.
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple concurrent initiatives.
- Track record of inspiring and guiding direct reports to achieve strategic objectives.
- Fluent in English; proficiency in additional regional languages is highly desirable.
- Exemplifies integrity and ethical conduct in all professional engagements.
- Passionate about driving social and environmental change and committed to creating positive impact.
