The Opportunity 
You’re an experienced basketball coach who would relish the opportunity to lead high quality community and school sport sessions and to grow Basketball across Greater Bristol with the Flyers Community and Bristol Sport Foundation.
 
You’ll be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with parents, young people and the staff at the venues and schools we work. With no two days the same in this role, you’ll embrace coaching a variety of participants and sessions, alongside adapting to new opportunities where you’ll learn and develop within a broader team of coaches. 
 
Day to day, you will predominantly be working alongside a second coach, delivering both basketball and a variety of other sports sessions to groups of up to 30 young people, whose ages range from 5 - 18, with varied abilities and backgrounds. You’ll be responsible for their safety, behaviour, progress, and of course, enjoyment! 
 
As a Flyers Community Basketball Coach, you are passionate, organised, and resilient. You’ll be motivated to run effective sessions for a diverse groups young people. What’s important to you is being part of an amazing team and the dynamic nature of the job. Ongoing training will be offered to help you strive for excellence in the role. 
 
Responsibilities:
  • Deliver safe, fun, age and ability appropriate sports sessions of the highest quality, in both school and community settings. 
  • Inspire others, (children, school staff and colleagues) with your energy, positivity, specialist Basketball knowledge, and desire for continuous development.
  • To continually monitor and evaluate all sessions and relationships with the aim of improving the quality, impact, and reputation of our programmes.
  • To communicate regularly and effectively with schools, co-coaches, and the leadership team at Bristol Sport Foundation.
  • Establish positive working relationships with key stake holders.
  • Signpost young people to Flyers Community Basketball opportunities across the city.
  • To be a part of developing to the work of the Flyers Community to ensure it meets the needs of the Bristol Basketball Community.
  • Support the broader work of Bristol Sport Foundation, which will include administration tasks, multi-sport school delivery and events.
  • To be able to work evenings and weekends. 

The Key Requirements:
  • A Level 2 sports coaching qualification. 
  • Experience coaching basketball in a community and/or school sport setting. 
  • An understanding of the demands of primary school PE, school sport, and physical activity.
  • A sound understanding of the basketball landscape within Bristol.
  • Experience of working with targeted groups or individuals from areas of deprivation.
  • Ability to build positive, long-lasting relationships.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and in a school and a community sport setting. 
  • Excellent time management. 
  • A commitment to supporting young people, and the principles of equality and diversity.
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work on own initiative.
  • Excellent communication skills including written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven planning and organisation skills. 
  • IT literate.
  • Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle. 

Please note - as this role involves working with young people, the successful candidate/s will require an Enhanced DBS Check.  
 
Working hours: 35 hours/week. 
 
Contract type: Fixed term until August 31st, 2026 (extension likely, but dependent on funding).
