About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Psychotherapist to provide therapeutic support to children and young people living in residential care. Within this role, you will contribute to supporting the implementation of clinically informed practices that support and enhance the emotional and social wellbeing of children. This role requires a flexible, child-centered approach and the ability to work collaboratively with residential staff, social workers, and external agencies to create a trauma-informed and therapeutic environment.
 
You will work within a multi-disciplinary team, to contribute to meetings and provide comprehensive support packages that will meet the needs of children/ young people, many of whom have experienced trauma, attachment difficulties, and present with complex needs. 
 
Job Context

RLE strives to provide clinical services to residential placements that are responsive to the needs of the children/ young people, residential providers, local authority and multi-agency partners. Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to specialised assessments that identify specific risks, needs or vulnerabilities of the young people and support treatment pathway planning. Such reports will be evidence-based and completed within specified timescales to contribute to care planning efforts.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based therapeutic plans to provide guidance and consultation to professionals. Consider trauma-informed approaches and behaviour management strategies.
  • Develop therapeutic plans and interventions to support young people’s mental health and resilience.
  • To be responsible for implementing a range of psychotherapeutic interventions, using evidence-based approaches tailored to the child/ young person’s needs (e.g., trauma-informed therapy, CBT, compassion focussed therapy, attachment-based interventions).
  • Attend multi-agency meetings (where required) to contribute psychological insights into care planning.
  • Support residential staff members in developing their ability to provide therapeutic care. 
  • Facilitate staff training and reflective practice sessions, enhancing the therapeutic environment of the placements. 
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and professional clinical records in line with ethical and legal guidelines.
  • Adhere to safeguarding policies, ensuring the safety and well-being of all young people.
  • Provide the Clinical Director with regular updates regarding the support provided to residential managers/ staff members and other agencies.
  • To receive regular clinical, professional supervision. 
  • Must maintain professional registration and personal insurances public and professional indemnity
 
Requirements 
Essential:

  • Recognised qualification in Psychotherapy (UKCP/ BACP accredited).
  • Minimum 1 years’ post-qualification experience, ideally working with looked-after children or trauma-experienced young people.
  • Strong knowledge of attachment theory, developmental trauma, and therapeutic interventions for children in care.
  • Experience in multi-agency working with social care, education, and/ or health professionals.
  • Understanding of safeguarding procedures and responsibilities in a residential care setting.
  • Ability to work autonomously, managing caseload and administration.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to own transport (travel between homes required).
  • Enhanced DBS check.
  • Professional Indemnity & Public Liability Insurance.
 
Desirable:

  • Additional training in EMDR, DDP, or ACT.
  • Experience delivering staff training or consultation in residential settings.
 
Contract & Payment

This is a permanent role.
Your basic rate of pay will be between £30,000 - £35,000 per annum (pro rata)
Flexible working hours based on the needs of the homes and young people.

Holidays

Your holiday entitlement will be 25 days, plus bank holidays (normally 8). The holiday year runs from January 1st to December 31st.
