We are looking for an inspirational individual to fill the role of Cricket Development Officer – Highlands at Cricket Scotland. Within this role the post holder will have responsibility for being the local point of contact to deliver Cricket Scotland’s support to clubs, engage with schools and local authorities and retain and grow our cricket communities across the region.
Within this role you will provide high quality stakeholder management and sports development input to drive improvements across clubs and schools, with a strong focus on girls’ cricket as well as linking into our community cricket programmes. You will be the focal point of a supportive, innovative and inspiring regional support system that delivers more opportunities and great experiences to drive transformational growth across the region in line with our 2024-2028 Strategy – Uniting People and Communities through Cricket.
You will be a motivated individual with proven experience in building and sustaining mutually beneficial partnerships to lead the games growth agenda. The ideal applicant will have knowledge of sports development, building a thriving sports community and a demonstrable track record of delivering results. You will be able to demonstrate experience of collaborative partnership.
Duties and Responsibilities:
National Programmes
- Be the “All Stars & Dynamos Champion” for the region, offering support to new and existing club and community All Stars Cricket and/or Dynamos Cricket centres.
- Compliance checks and support for club/school/community-based centres.
- Promotion, Activator training, club support.
- Facilitate local Money Can’t Buy experiences.
- Provide regional data and reports as and when requested.
Club Support
- Review club support needs twice a year (pre and post season) with every club in the region and agree and deliver a tailored club support plan.
- Facilitate Junior Cricket Development Groups as required with the CS Junior Formats, organisation and delivery of fixtures, festivals, and events for girls and boys.
- Facilitate club development.
- Establish and support local club-school links.
- Support clubs with Safeguarding policy, processes and training.
- Promote and support Equality, Diversity and Inclusive practice at club level.
- Provide advice and support on funding opportunities.
Community Engagement
- Identify and support club and school-based disability and community cricket initiatives.
- Support club initiatives that embrace the sportscotland “Changing Lives” approach with a focus on communities, health, and wellbeing.
- Support and promote local Wicketz, Chance to Shine Street, MCC Foundation programmes.
- Collaborate with local and national refugee organisations to provide appropriate cricket opportunities.
Women and girls’ cricket
- Drive the continued growth of women’s cricket and girls’ cricket aligned with the CS Strategy and Women and Girls Action Plan.
- Organise and facilitate local playing opportunities/festivals for women and girls, in collaboration with Regional Association and Junior Development Group.
- Promote Cricket Scotland programmes for women and girls, particularly Girls only Dynamos, CricHIIT and The Wee Bash.
Workforce Development
- Assess local requirement for coaching courses, umpire and scorer training and volunteer training opportunities, including young people, female only and disability focussed courses.
- Organise local delivery of courses with the CS Coach Education Lead.
- Deliver ICC Coaching courses, Teacher CPD and Young Leaders training.
- Promote opportunities in scoring and umpiring.
Schools
- Provide the link between clubs and local authorities: Community Sports Hubs, Active Schools, Sports Development Teams.
- Deliver cricket as part of school sports events.
- Organise local school competitions leading to the annual National Schools Week of Cricket finals in June.
- Support the Chance to Shine Whole School Programme in the region, including the engagement days, play sessions, teacher CPD and competitions.
Data Communications & Reporting
- Assist Cricket Scotland in communicating with and supporting clubs on the new registration system SCRS.
- Promote messages of equality, diversity and inclusivity, consistent with Cricket Scotland values.
- Report on activities and outcomes as agreed with and required by your line manager.
- Assist in Cricket Scotland activities and events that require all-in participation, including meetings, conferences, matches.

Skills, knowledge and experience
To be considered for this role you should be able to demonstrate:
- Knowledge and understanding of sports development, including club development.
- Experience of coaching and engaging with children and young people through sport.
- Minimum of ECB Level 2/ICC Level 1 coaching qualification or equivalent
- Well-developed communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with partners and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of the sporting system in Scotland, particularly in clubs, schools and communities.
- A good understanding of and commitment to Equality Diversity & Inclusion.
- Clearly demonstrate the ability to engage with key partners and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Clear understanding of the benefits that physical activity and sport can bring to all.
You should also be able to demonstrate:

This position will involve regulated work with minors. Candidates will require satisfactory PVG Scheme membership to be considered for the position.
Hours of Work
This is initially a part time role, working an average of 20 hours per week, however there may be flexibility to increase or reduce working hours at different times of the year.
Due to the nature of the business, a flexible approach to working hours is to be expected; there may be a requirement to be flexible in relation to working hours, which may include working in evenings or weekends.
Place of Work
Please note successful candidates will be required to live in Scotland and be able to work in the UK and have a Visa in place that allows the candidate to undertake this form of employment in the UK. We are not in a position to sponsor Visa applications for this role.
While working within the Highlands area, you need to be able to travel within Scotland, as part of your role. Due to the nature of the role candidates will be required to be based in the Scottish Highlands and commute regularly across the region.
