We give children the reading skills and confidence they need for a fair chance in life, through our flexible volunteer-led programme. We are seeking a passionate and creative Content Designer with primary teaching experience to join our Programme Development Team. In this role, you will design engaging quizzes based on stories, create content for online reading sessions, and develop a user-friendly platform that meets the needs of schools and families.​

Job Description


  • Design and create quizzes that are engaging and educational based on a variety of resources​
  • Develop interactive online content that align with reading sessions and captivate children and supports diverse learning styles​
  • Responsible for building and developing a user-friendly platform that facilitates easy access to reading materials and quizzes for both educators and families​
  • Collaborate with the Programme Development Team to engage schools and families by developing outreach materials​
  • Evaluate the usage of the platform by analysing engagement metrics and feedback to identify trends and areas for improvement​
  • Use data insights to refine content and enhance user experience, ensuring that the resources remain effective and enjoyable for students​
  • Work closely with the Programme Development Team to ensure content aligns with pedagogical best practices​
  • Work with other teams in the charity and ensure key stakeholders are updated with information on the project and their role within it​


Person specification


  • Proven experience as a primary school teacher, with a strong understanding of primary education standards and learning methodologies​
  • A true passion for Bookmark’s mission, to give every child the opportunity to discover the joy of reading​
  • Have a good understanding of reading for pleasure pedagogy​
  • Technically literate with experience in content creation or instructional design, particularly in digital formats​
  • A confident, friendly, proactive, and collaborative manner​
  • Strong writing and editing skills with a focus on clarity, creativity, and engagement​
  • Ability to engage a variety of audiences​
  • Strong time management and organisational skills​
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools and techniques for evaluating educational content.​
  • Passion for enhancing children's learning experiences and promoting literacy​
  • The ability to work with independence, intelligence, drive, and initiative​
  • Ensure that all activity helps to build Bookmark’s brand and is always brand compliant​
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word)

Contract type: Fixed-Term (6 months)
Salary: £30,000 to £34,000 pro rata – part time role
Location: This role will offer flexibility in respect of hours and homeworking
Hours: Part time: Flexibility around hours (0.6 to 0.7FTE) and compressed hours considered
