We’re seeking a GIS analyst, with an initial focus on applying GIS to support land management and policy decision making. This role will involve taking forward a range of potential research projects, depending on the interest and expertise of the successful candidate. This unique role is split between the Falkland Islands (9 months) and St Helena Island (9 months). The Falkland Islands based component will be project based, with possible research themes related to fire risk and pasture boundary mapping. Depending on the research, it could involve generating new spatial data (e.g., UAV habitat mapping), combined with leveraging existing data. The St Helena element will be to produce the spatial data outputs required by the St Helena Government, to facilitate policy decision making, leveraging existing data. 

The overarching purpose of this will to be contribute to the interface between Science and Policy on the Falkland Islands and St. Helena. It will analyse a wealth of existing environmental datasets (most of which are spatial) to be able to provide evidence for high-level decision-makers in real time. It requires working closely with the governments of the Falkland Islands and St. Helena.
This project is funded through SELINA and the SELINA South Atlantic Project officer will lead on SAERIs partner input into the SELINA project. SELINA is a collaboration of experts from 50 partner organisations from all 27 EU member states, and Norway, Switzerland, Israel, and the United Kingdom. The main accountabilities of the role are to:
 
•                             Develop and deliver a GIS based research project in the Falkland Islands (depending on interest and expertise of the successful candidate)
•                             Work closely with the governments of the Falkland Islands and St. Helena to analyse spatial data as required for policy and decision-making.
•                             Lead on the implementation of SAERI’s input into the SELINA project work packages and tasks as outlined above, and prepare all SAERIs required input into project reporting.
