About Student Minds
Our mission: No student should be held back by their mental health.
By creating and curating resources, stories and tools, we empower students to build their own mental health toolkit to support themselves and their peers through university life and beyond. We challenge the higher education sector, health sector, and government to work with students when making decisions that impact them and we make them accountable for prioritising student mental health.
Together, we’re improving university communities so that every student gets the mental health support they need to reach their goals.
About Student Space
Student Space supports students through the uncertainty of student life. It is a free and confidential service developed in collaboration with mental health services, higher education professionals, researchers, and students. It comprises several support elements including advice and information, student stories, and signposting to support services at university and students’ unions. In addition, to address increasing health inequalities, a range of tailored services and content has also been created.
About the role
Student Space Governance Group members will have the opportunity to share and influence the strategic direction of the Student Space programme, sitting alongside experts from the higher education, mental health, and charity sector. Since we launched in 2020, as a response to the pandemic, we have reached over half a million people through Student Space. We want your support to continue supporting students through the uncertainty of university life.
You will have the opportunity to bring your student perspective and lived experience of mental health, working closely with staff from Student Minds, to ensure the interventions developed by the project are relevant, useful and effective.
This is a great opportunity for you to gain skills in leadership, public speaking and mental health advocacy. In return you will receive peer support, networking opportunities and mentoring through the Student Space Programme Management Team.
We particularly encourage applications from across UK institutions who are: male students, students of colour, LGBT+, and disabled students. However, students from all backgrounds are eligible to apply.
Key responsibilities
Members of the Student Space Governance Group will be expected to commit to attending meetings during the 2024/25 academic year. These meetings will be held online. You will be kept updated of any changes by the Programme Management Team via email.
We hope members will be able to fully commit to the role and engage with the project as much as possible, and we are committed to supporting members to achieve this. We expect the following commitment from all members:
- To attend all meetings throughout the year.
- To be prepared for all meetings; reading any materials in advance of meetings.
- To give advance notice if unable to attend a meeting. Should a member be unable to attend a meeting, we ask that they still share any thoughts/feedback where possible via email.
