Job Purpose

To undertake Fire Risk Assessments on a variety of different properties in Northern England.  The ability to technically validate reports as per BAFE requirements is also required.
 
To act as the technical lead on specific customer contracts, assignments, and appropriate policy development. Facilitate, deliver services, and where possible enhance the efficient operation of the Safety Consultancy & Training provided by Metro SRM. Will need to work closely with their line Manager, the Operational Support Team, and Business Development
 
Provide assistance in the recruitment, training, monitoring and support of appropriately qualified and competent Contractors.  Assist with the training and mentoring of other employed Consultants, in relation to Safety Consultancy and Risk Management work undertaken by them.
 
Duties and Responsibilities 
 
Specific Responsibilities & Accountabilities
 
  • To personally deliver Safety Consultancy and Risk Assessment/Management services to customers.
  • Consultants usually spend between 10 – 12 days in the field each month undertaking site visits.  Whilst a good proportion of the detail required in the final report can be captured on site, there will be a significant amount of home write up.
  • Ensure all reports are written to a high standard within 5 working days of any site visit.
  • Take a full active role in our Seniors Quality Steering Group.
 
Services will be aligned with primary and secondary disciplines.
 
  • As directed by their managers undertake higher grade consultancy work in line with competencies.
  • To develop and maintain excellent client relationships and ensure high quality service delivery.
  • To deputise, from time to time for their line manager, in representing the department in internal and external meetings and to represent Metro SRM as directed and where appropriate.
  • To maintain an appropriate degree of expertise in these disciplines through CPD and other required activities, including liaison with the relevant statutory bodies.
 
Corporate Responsibilities
 
  • Recruitment and training - Providing assistance in recruitment and training of contractors.
  • Retain responsibility for designated contractors as mentor, and in providing the necessary technical support and advice on a add hoc basis.
  • Relationship management – Ensure effective communication with external customers/potential customers, including responding to technical queries. As well as liaising as necessary with the relevant authorities e.g. Fire Authorities.
  • Quality Management - Maintaining high quality of work and monitoring quality of others in the team, as directed by the Senior Consultant – Quality Systems (SCQS).
  • Cross-company Liaison - Ensure appropriate collaboration and communication with other Metro departments and business units to ensure that Metro provides customers with professional and co-ordinated safety advice.
  • Process Improvement – To assist with innovation and continuous improvement in the department’s products and services through monitoring and making recommendations for updating report formats and procedures.
  • Act as the technical lead on specific customer contracts, assignments, and appropriate policy development.
  • Business Unit Advocate – Ensure the business unit is appropriately represented at both external Corporate and in-house meetings, to provide technical guidance and expertise by deputising for your line Manager.
 
Education and Qualifications
Essential 
  • Third Party Accreditation for life safety fire risk assessment – IFE, IFPO or Equivalent
  • Graduate or Membership of IFE (Institute of Fire Engineers)
  •   A suitable nationally recognised qualification in Fire Safety such as HND/HNC/BSc/MSc in fire safety, CFPA European diploma in Fire Safety Management
  • Attendance at Fire Service College’s Long Fire Prevention Course, if relevant qualification above has not been Attained
    Evidence of formal current and relevant continuous professional development course 
  • A recognised H&S professional qualification e.g., NEBOSH Certificate 
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrate 5 years in primary discipline
