Migrateful is planning the third cookery class teacher training programme  in Bristol. We are looking for a trainer with cookery teaching experience to join our team to lead on the training of 6 new chefs from refugee and migrant backgrounds with support from the Bristol Manager and London-based Migrateful Chef Development Team. This is an exciting opportunity to be an integral part of the growing Bristol project as we welcome a new cohort of chefs onto the programme and increase our impact in the city.

Contract Type and availability: 
  • Fixed short term 
  • Total of 6 days work between April and May 2024 (induction/chef interview support) 
  • Thereafter 3 days a week for 12 weeks (3rd June and 16th August 2024)

Person Specification
We welcome applications from people with a refugee or migrant background.

Essential: 
  • Cookery class teacher experience (or equivalent skills in delivering training, workshop facilitation and cooking experience) 
  • Recipe development and writing experience 
  • Strong organisation skills 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse range of people including marginalised groups
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to take initiative, be flexible and think creatively
  • Willingness to carry out an enhanced DBS check 
  • Supports Migrateful’s mission

Desirable:
  • Level 2 or 3 Food Safety certification 
  • First Aid qualification
  • Experience working with refugees and migrants 
  • Experience working with non-native English speakers 
  • Volunteer coordination or management 
  • Experience working in the hospitality sector 

Role & Responsibilities 

Responsible for:
  • Adapting Migrateful training materials where necessary 
  • Lead on delivering the chef training programme with support from the Bristol Manager
  • Setting up and cleaning down the kitchen with the help of mentors for each session 
  • Course admin - including managing mentor rota, communication with the chefs and organising ingredients ahead of each session
  • Ordering and distributing Chef’s Handbooks and Chef’s Welcome Packs
  • Point of contact for chefs and mentors to finalise their menu choices and quantities 
  • Taking notes during recipe testing and practice classes and feeding back to chef and mentors so changes can be implemented
  • Working with the Bristol Manager to coordinate the development of accurate and complete class documents, including recipes, class plans, allergen matrices, chef bios
  • Supporting chefs to fill out forms and impact surveys and evaluation 
  • Other reasonable tasks and responsibilities as required

Supporting Bristol Manager to:
  • Interview and onboard chefs - making sure we only onboard chefs who meet our criteria
  • Onboard and induct volunteer mentors - ensuring they understand the outputs expected, time commitment, 1:1 nature of working with chefs etc.
  • Pre-training admin such as setting up chef folders, WhatsApp groups, resources etc.  
  • Evaluate the Chef Journey in Bristol 
  • Establish good working relationships between chefs and facilitators
