About us:
Space Solar’s mission is to create an era-defining new solar energy source from space.
In 12 years, Space Solar will deliver an affordable, scalable, and fully renewable new baseload energy technology. We will accelerate the transition to net zero and provide energy security for partner nations, as global demand grows.
Ultimately, we will help create a safer and more secure world where clean energy is available to everyone, for the benefit of all life on earth.
This ground-breaking programme will develop and commercialise space based solar power. Space Solar must become the world’s most knowledgeable entity in space-based solar power technologies, system design, delivery, deployment, and utilisation.
The project will benefit humanity, supplying clean power whilst diminishing reliance on fossil fuels, thereby reducing carbon emissions. It will deliver a huge innovation footprint across sectors from energy to space to robotics. Therefore, the successful candidate must hold sustainability and innovation as key personal values if they are to have credibility both internally and externally.
About the Role:
As an Autonomous Assembly and Robotics Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and implementation of autonomous robotic systems for assembly of the Solar Power Satellite. You will develop technologies capable of interacting with both cooperative and non-cooperative SBSP components.
Working within a team you will create new robotic products, with particular emphasis on manufacturability at scale, and cost. You will be responsible for the entire project lifecycle, from concept to deployment at commercial scale, and work alongside cross-functional teams to deliver state-of-the-art solutions.
Bringing specialist expertise in one or more disciplines related to Autonomous Systems, you will support the design and development of mechanical, electrical and software aspects of robotic systems, perform structural and thermal analysis and generate technical drawings.
You will support the development of world-class robotics simulation and testing capabilities and facilities and lead interactions with customers, partners, and subcontractors.
What you will bring to the team:
- Proven experience in designing, developing, and deploying autonomous robotic systems.
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, C++, ROS).
- Strong knowledge of robotics hardware, including sensors, actuators, and controllers.
- Robotics code developer with experience of simulation / modelling and autonomy / cooperation (desirable).
- Experience with computer vision, machine learning, and path planning algorithms.
- Solid understanding of automation and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience with industry-standard tools and platforms is a plus (e.g., ROS, Gazebo, NVIDIA Isaac Sim, SolidWorks, etc.)
