About the Role:
A unique opportunity: A Programme Director is now sought to join our fast-growing Space Solar team to deliver this multi $Billion technology development programme, comprising of a number of cutting-edge technology innovations and inventions. This role will be critical in enabling the business to achieve its goal to develop and industrialise Space Based Solar Power, and deliver on our promises to our investors and stakeholders.
As Programme Director, you will be responsible for working with the delivery team to ensure the successful delivery of the programme on time and to cost. This will require close working with the Senior Management Team (in particular the CTO and COO), to ensure programme feasibility and to identify and resolve potential issues early.
As Programme Director you will be responsible for building the Programme Management function from the foundations up. Due to the nature of our business being a start-up, you will be responsible for putting in place the necessary systems, tools, procedures and governance to execute the programme, alongside input from the Engineering leadership team.
You will also be responsible for growing a capable team of Project Managers to deliver the range of design and development strands and technology demonstrators.
An ambitious programme:
The programme is multi-faceted, requiring innovative engineering and technology demonstration, collaboration in international partnerships, working with national and international forums to develop enabling standards and regulation, and bringing policy makers and the public on the journey. It will be fast paced and agile, recognising and responding to changing stakeholder needs and emerging technical requirements.
Our ideal candidate and the role:
- We require someone with excellent programme management experience, is comfortable working in an environment where there may at times be uncertainty and no precedents, working under pressure and in a start-up culture. Experience with complex engineering, major infrastructure and/or technology development programmes is vital.
- You will need to be able to operate at both the Programme level – overseeing and managing the multiple strands of the programme – as well as getting stuck into the detail. You must therefore be comfortable with leading and/or supporting the development of detailed Programme and Project Management artefacts.
- You will be part of a “one team” approach; excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, a “can-do” mindset, and an agile/innovative approach to problem solving, are skills we consider of great value.
What you will bring to the team:
- Demonstrated track record of major programme delivery and managing multi-disciplined Engineering teams.
- Demonstrated experience with complex and/or very large technology programmes across the product design lifecycle.
- Demonstrated ability to operate with multiple senior Stakeholders.
- Ability to operate under pressure.
- Demonstrated strong Customer relationship skills.
- Excellent leadership and team-working skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in all aspects of project planning, scheduling, work package management, sub-contract management and cost control.
Desirable experience:
- Experience working in a fast-paced start-up company.
- Experience in spacecraft systems engineering.
