About us:
Space Solar’s mission is to create an era-defining new solar energy source from space.
In 12 years, Space Solar will deliver an affordable, scalable, and fully renewable new baseload energy technology. We will accelerate the transition to net zero and provide energy security for partner nations, as global demand grows.
Ultimately, we will help create a safer and more secure world where clean energy is available to everyone, for the benefit of all life on earth.
This ground-breaking programme will develop and commercialise space based solar power. Space Solar must become the world’s most knowledgeable entity in space-based solar power technologies, system design, delivery, deployment, and utilisation.
The project will benefit humanity, supplying clean power whilst diminishing reliance on fossil fuels, thereby reducing carbon emissions. It will deliver a huge innovation footprint across sectors from energy to space to robotics. Therefore, the successful candidate must hold sustainability and innovation as key personal values if they are to have credibility both internally and externally.
About the Role:
As the Director of Technology Development for Space Solar, you will be responsible for directing and delivering the research, development, and maturation of all the technologies that form the Space Solar system and subsystems. This role requires a visionary and creative leader, with a drive to seek innovative solutions to challenging problems.
You will have a strong track record in successfully delivering complex technology maturation programmes, ideally within aerospace or a similar high technology sector. You will be a natural innovator and problem solver, comfortable operating in a complex and often uncertain environment where there is no precedent.
You will build dynamic, creative, and high performing teams that will research, develop, and mature key technologies, including wireless power transmission, space-based assembly, structures as well as the ground infrastructure. You will be responsible for building an IP portfolio for the company, identifying exploitation paths and applications which could deliver strong shareholder value.
What you will bring to the team:
- Strong track record in leading the development of complex technology, ideally within aerospace or a similar high technology sector.
- Proficient knowledge of space systems and the space sector.
- Experience in IP portfolio development and exploitation
- Experience in the commercialisation and spinout of technology developments.
- Strong leadership skills to effectively manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and foster innovation and collaboration among team members and our partners.
- Development and deployment of spacecraft from technical, operational, regulatory and certification perspectives.
