The Policy and Research Manager will lead the development and delivery of VOYPIC’s policy advocacy strategy, ensuring that it is underpinned by evidence and research, and the views and experiences of care-experienced children and young people. 

This will include strategic policy and political analysis, research and policy development, lobbying, developing and maintaining positive working relationships with stakeholders in both the statutory and voluntary sectors to safeguard and promote the rights and best interests of children in and leaving care in Northern Ireland.

Essential Criteria

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a similar role at management level 
  • Third level qualification in a relevant discipline e.g. social sciences, research, politics, law etc.
  • A good understanding of policy development and how to influence strategic decision-making.
  • Excellent knowledge of children’s rights, inequality and social justice, and a track record in research and policy influencing.
  • Thorough understanding of social policy and decision-making processes and structures, including government institutions and state agencies ways of working, agendas, and influencing pathways.
  • Demonstrable ability to contribute to organisation-wide strategy and operational management.
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills, and ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Excellent communications and written skills to deliver policy and research products 
  • Effective lobbying and media work that is underpinned by the lived experience of children and young people living in and leaving care.
