The Communications and Engagement Team is a central service within the Union, producing Union-wide campaigns, being insight experts on current student opinion and managing the Union’s communications and marketing channels. 

This role will sit with the Communications and Engagement team, and will support all areas of the organisation in coordinating, developing and delivering research and insight activity. The post will support the elected officers to deliver high-impact and evidence-lead campaigns and activities, as well as supporting individual departments to track their KPIs and make change based on feedback. 

Job description: 

Key responsibilities:

  • To analyse sources of student feedback, identifying relevant student opinion to track
  • common issues and trends.
  • To assist in the monitoring of issues arising from relevant meetings.
  • To oversee and monitor data sources as this is collated and analysed.
  • To assist in the preparation of reports, briefings and consultation responses.
  • Keep up to date with national research and sector trends, providing training or briefings on key issues and analysis of the potential impact on our members
  • To assist with research through focus groups, surveys and information stands.
  • To lead on the development and delivery of the Union’s Research and Insight strategy. 
  • To contribute to organisational strategic and operational planning by ensuring departments across the Union understand available and relevant insight.
  • To lead on the development of online content related to your area of work including social media and website content
  • To work with the Head of Communications and Engagement to ensure all data is ethically collected, and stored/ processed in line with relevant data protection legislation.

  • Supervise student staff as required

Person Specification:

The ideal candidate should meet the following requirements:

Essential:

  • Experience of working in successful partnerships with a range of stakeholders
  • Experience of analysis of written and numerical data 
  • Good understanding of, and an interest in, current issues and themes in Higher Education and Students’ Unions
  • Excellent oral and written communication/presentation skills with the ability to disseminate complex and different information to a wide range of audiences 
  • Understands how to use KPIs and targets to measure impact
  • Comfortable working in a democratic, student-led environment with the ability to empower and build constructive relationships with elected leaders
  • Strong commitment to, and understanding of the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion. 
  • Commitment to the Union’s values 
  • A commitment to personal development 
  • A commitment to keeping the needs of students at the heart of the role

Desirable:

  • Experience of developing written briefings for policy areas 
  • Experience of running focus groups, or similar research projects
