Details
Every year, Staffordshire Women's Aid helps hundreds of women and children move from crisis to safety. This role sits right at the centre of how we do that, and how we grow to do more of it.

Staffordshire Women’s Aid provides a range of high-quality, safe accommodation services, including a 12-unit purpose-built refuge and dispersed refuge accommodation within the local community, for women and children fleeing domestic abuse. Referrals are received from both Service Users and partner agencies from within Staffordshire and across the UK.

As a Refuge Support Practitioner, you will deliver practical and emotional support using a trauma-informed, recovery-focused approach. You will work collaboratively with women to increase their safety, wellbeing, confidence, resilience and independence, responding to their individual needs and circumstances.

You will undertake comprehensive risk and needs assessments, provide one-to-one support, advocacy, group work and safety planning. You will work alongside women and children to achieve positive outcomes, supporting them to access appropriate services, secure safe accommodation and build sustainable futures free from abuse.

The role requires effective multi-agency working to ensure the needs of women and children are met. This includes developing and maintaining positive working relationships with key partners, including the Police, Social Care, Housing Providers, Benefits Agencies, Health Services, Solicitors, Schools and other specialist support organisations.

In addition, we would expect the successful applicant to work as part of a team, contributing when needed to the day to day running of the Refuge service.

The essentials

  • 37 hours per week, full time
